The Alhambra, Granada, Spain
1665 - 1668. Etching on laid paper.Not on display
This print belongs to an album, bound in parchment from the 17th or early 18th century, consisting of 103 prints with views of churches, palaces, monuments, and places in France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, belonging to different series published during the 17th century. This one belongs to the series Differents veues des Palais et Jardins de plaisance des Rois despagne, with several views of Spain and Portugal etched by Louis Meunier (c. 1630-c. 1680) and published in Paris between 1665 and 1668 by Nicolas Bonnart I (1637-1718). It appears that all these images were drawn from life, as stated in some of the prints (designe au naturel), during Meunier´s stay in the Iberian Peninsula in the 1660s, and subsequently etched.
