The Annunciation
Late XVI century. Wash, Grey-brown ink, Pencil ground on grey paper. Not on display
Traditionally attributed to Tintoretto, Manuela Mena Marqués, who commented on the drawing´s excellent quality, rightly suggested in could be from the Bolognese School. The beautifully modulated washes juxtaposed with areas of the untouched paper, giving great luminosity to the forms, is typical of the fluent brush-and-wash drawings of Faccini. The composition also recalls treatments of the Annunciation by both Annibale and Ludovico Carracci, alongside whom Faccini worked for a time.
