The Assumption of the Virgin
XVI century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil, Pencil ground on dark yellow paper. Not on display
The Virgin, seated facing the front with her hands together, is surrounded by beams of light and child angels in the upper register. The Apostles, standing or kneeling, are gathered around the empty tomb in the lower register.
This mediocre work draws inspiration from some elements of Federico Zuccaro’s Assumptions (El Escorial, Museo del Prado, etc.) and interprets them with utmost modesty.
