The Assumption of the Virgin
XVII century. Black chalk on yellow paper. Not on display
The virgin is depicted seated on a throne of clouds with open arms. She lifts her gaze to the sky. Cherubim and seraphim surround her.
The modelling of several of the figures, particularly the angels, is extremely reminiscent of Cano’s style. Nevertheless, the technique and the overall character of the work seem to refute the attribution to the painter from Granada.
