The Coronation of the Virgin

Late XVII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil on dark yellow paper. Not on display

The dry and less-than-energetic lines in this rather poor drawing suggest it is a copy. The scene reflects the style of the circle around Pietro de Cortona, and can therefore be dated from the late 17th century. Similar drawings in the Uffizi collection are attributed to Domenico Gabbiani, but they are of higher quality than the present work, which may be a copy of a drawing by that Florentine artist.
