The Immaculate Conception
Ca. 1750. Pencil on laid paper. Not on display
In this drawing, the Immaculate Virgin stands on the world with her hands clasped together and her head raised. She is flanked on either side by pairs of child angels. Those on the viewer’s right are brought in chains to the infernal serpent, one of whom is piercing its jaws with a dart. Those on the left are holding palms and flowers.
It is thought to date from the mid-18th century.
