The Penitent Magdalen
Second half of the XVII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil ground on paper. Not on display
Mary Magdalen is depicted kneeling in profile to the left before a wooden cross. She appears with her arms crossed over her chest.
There is no evidence of a composition by Murillo of which this figure can be considered a copy. Its style, evidently from Seville during 1650–1700, is in some respects closer to that of Valdés Leal.
