Ceroni printed the drawing made by Silvestro Valeri after Alessandro Capalti’s portrait of the young Italian sculptor. Chialli (1800 – 1839), who trained under Antonio Canova and Tommaso Minardi, was an assistant to Bertel Thorvaldsen for years, before going on to produce a great corpus of religious works, in keeping with the aesthetic of Minardi, besides numerous portraits.
