The Virgin as a Shepherdess
Second half of the XVIII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil on laid paper. Not on display
This is a preparatory drawing for an engraving. It depicts the Virgin as a Shepherdess sitting and holding the Christ Child, who is playing with some lambs. A kneeling Franciscan saint offers her a basket of fruit. Two child angels crown her, and in the background on the left, Saint Michael fights the infernal dragon.
