Vision of Saint Teresa / Sketches
XVII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil, Chalk ground on dark yellow paper. Not on display
Saint Teresa is depicted kneeling before a reeded trellis with roses. Meanwhile, the naked Christ Child appears to her, surrounded by angels.
On the reverse, there are several sketches in sanguine pencil intended for the same composition.
The use of light and the modelling of the children’s bodies are very reminiscent of Espinosa’s style, from which Saura would form his own.
