Carlota Rosales Martínez de Pedrosa
Madrid (Spain), 25.09.1872 - Madrid, 4.08.1958She was the second daughter of the painter Eduardo Rosales. Carlota showed an early affinity and talent for painting. She began her artistic journey under the guidance of her godfather, the painter Vicente Palmaroli. In 1887, she won a scholarship worth 8,000 reales for the Academy of Spain in Rome. During her time at the Academy, she met Miguel Santonja, a professor of Harmony at the Madrid Conservatory, whom she married in 1896. From that point on, painting took a backseat over her family life. Nevertheless, she participated in several editions of the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Spain, including the 1895 edition, where she received an Honorable Mention.
