Julia Alcayde Montoya
Gijón, Asturias (Spain), 22.5.1855 - Madrid (Spain), 18.2.1939Spanish artist specialized in still life, flower arrangements, and hunting scenes; she also painted landscapes and portraits. She began her training in Madrid under Manuel Ramírez, who was a teacher in the School of Arts and Crafts. She participated in different editions of the National Fine Arts Exhibitions in Spain winning the third prize medal in 1892 and 1895, second prize in 1899 for her work "El puesto de mi calle" (Jovellanos Birthplace Museum, Gijón), and in 1912 for the painting "Frutas". She received a special mention in 1920. She also participated in several World’s Fair, in Chicago in 1893, in Brussels in 1910, in Buenos Aires and Rome in 1911, and in Munich in 1913 (Balbás Ibáñez, Mª S., in Enciclopedia M.N.P., 2006, T.II, p. 345).
