In 1997 the Casón urgently needed repairs. It had damp problems, not just because of the downpipes, which were old, but because of the building’s structure. The Casón had been built over a watercourse that ran from the Retiro and there were tremendous problems with damp in the subsoil. So it was decided that the building needed to be totally updated and we were closed for ten years. These were also the years when we could work on exhibitions and restore the whole collection as both we and the restoration studio continued functioning. We optimised the entire collection, which has since been displayed at the Museum in the best possible conditions.
She began working at the Library of the Department of 19th Century Painting, then becoming Conservator in 1987.
