Workshop

Editatona I. The Female Perspective

March 23 and 30, 2023

The Prado Museum and Wikimedia Spain host a new workshop for editing Wikipedia pages. This time, the activity will be centred around the thematic route The Female Perspective.

An edit-a-thon is an event of collective and simultaneous editing of Wikipedia with the purpose of reducing the gender gap on the internet. The goal is to improve and create the proposed articles related to a specific topic and to include content from a gender perspective. On this occasion, the activity is held within the thematic route The Female Perspective I. The proposed themes are the biographies and works of women artists about whom there is little information or who do not have an article yet, as well as reviewing the entries that appear in Wikipedia of the women associated with the Prado Museum (art promoters, collectors and patrons, etc.).

This is a participative activity that, in addition to fostering socialization within the Wikipedia community, allows this topic to gain visibility among the public and advances the main goal of reducing the gender gap in the free encyclopaedia and on the internet.

The event will take place in two sessions. In the first one, online and with a formative purpose, the participants will be given the basic directions on how to edit the Wikipedia page and how to collect references and information for working on the proposed articles. In the second one, which will take place at the Library of the Prado Museum to allow access to the books and different sources of information, the redacted contents will be edited and published in Wikipedia.
