A conversation with John Coetzee and Mariana Dimópulos
In the International Felowship Writing the Prado sponsored by Fundación Loewe, the fellow will take part in a public event held in the Museum's auditorium. The writer John Coetzee is the first fellow of Writing the Prado and will participate in a conversation with his translator into Spanish, Mariana Dimópulos, about language, the instrument of expression of the novelist and the translator, about equivalences, analogies, comparisons, about all those factors that can be considered artistic requirements of language.

John Coetzee
J.M. Coetzee was born in South Africa in 1940 and educated at the University of Cape Town and the University of Texas, where he earned his PhD in 1968.
During a lengthy academic career he held professorial appointments at the University of Cape Town and the University of Chicago, as well as visiting appointments at Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, and Stanford University.
He has published nineteen works of fiction, as well as literary criticism and translations. Among the awards he has won are the Booker Prize (twice) and, in 2003, the Nobel Prize for Literature.
He lives in Adelaide, South Australia, where he is Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide.
International Writing Fellowship Sponsored by Fundación Loewe
With the aim of contributing to excellence in artistic creation, inspiring and promoting experimentation and the convergence of the creative languages of literature and the visual arts, the Museum temporarily becomes a host for living writing through Writing the Prado. International Writing Fellowship sponsored by the Loewe Foundation. Each year the Museo Nacional del Prado invites two internationally renowned writers for stays of between three weeks and two months. The writer is provided with a workplace and has access to the workshops, library, collection rooms, and spaces reserved for the Museum's professional teams. He/she has the opportunity to be in daily contact with curators, technicians, restorers and the rest of workers of the museum as well as visitors.
