"Arte incómodo": "The Slave Girl”, c. 1886 Antonio María Fabrés y Costa | “Uninvited Guests"

Work commented by Aída E. Bueno Sarduy, Anthropologist, NYU, Middlebury College and Boston University

Antonio María Fabrés y Costa "The Slave Girl”, c. 1886

It represents a woman punished for the theft of some jewels (as indicated in Arabic on the shingle at the head of this one). Although the nudity is here limited to the breast, the image of the prisoner is given a strong sexual connotation.
