Celebrations and Processions in Brussels in 1615
Live video with Alejandro Vergara, Head of the Flemish Painting and Northern Schools Collection at the Museo del Prado, discussing the series of eight paintings commissioned by the governors of the Southern Netherlands, Isabella Clara Eugenia and her husband, Archduke Albert of Austria, from artists including Denis van Alsloot, David Noveliers and Anton Sallaert.
This series of paintings commemorates the events of May 1615, when the ruling couple took part in the annual shooting competition organised by the Grand Serment, or Guild of Crossbowmen, and successfully brought down the parrot mounted on the spire of the Church of Our Lady of the Sablon.
