Exhibition: "Juan Muñoz. Stories of Art"
Juan Muñoz (1953–2001), one of the most influential Spanish artists of contemporary art, ‘returns’ to the Museo Nacional del Prado, a place of inspiration that he visited frequently. His work reveals a sustained conceptual engagement with Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture, particularly in his approach to perspective, composition and theatrical staging.
Curated by Vicente Todolí, former Director of Tate Modern (2003–2010), the exhibition brings together, until 8 March 2026, installations, sculptures, personal books, cabinets containing small figures, drawings and prints. These works are displayed in Galleries C and D of the Jerónimos Building and in various spaces within the Villanueva Building, and reveal the profound connection Muñoz maintained with the Prado’s great masters, such as Velázquez and Goya, as well as with the traditions of the Renaissance, Mannerism and the Baroque.
