Invited: restorations for an exhibition

Lecture delivered by Lucía Martínez, conservator at the Museo del Prado, within the Uninvited lecture series, on 3 March 2021.

The exhibition Uninvited Guests. Episodes on Women, Ideology and the Visual Arts in Spain (1833-1931) explores the position that the Spanish artistic system afforded women from the reign of Isabella II to the beginning of the Second Republic. Through the works on display, the exhibition aims to shed light on nineteenth-century women through their representations and the role they occupied in society.

In this context, the Prado Museum’s General Coordination of Education, always attentive to the interests of its audience and with the aim of making the exhibition’s content more visible and accessible, organised a lecture series held in the Museum’s auditorium from 7 November. Leading specialists from the current art scene examine different aspects of the exhibition, offering in-depth insight into the many rich and compelling readings that the display presents to the public.
