Itinerary “The Council of State and the Prado Museum” on the 5th Centenary of the Council
Live video with Carmen Calvo, President of the Council of State, presenting the new itinerary that allows visitors to explore five centuries of Spain’s political, institutional, and cultural history through works by Titian, Rubens, Velázquez, Goya, and Madrazo.
From Charles V, founder of the Council, through prominent figures of the Enlightenment such as Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, and up to the nineteenth century, this route offers a new perspective on the Prado Museum’s collection. It shows how portraiture was not only a major artistic genre but also a powerful tool for representing power, influence, and memory.
Broadcast from Room 36 of the Museo del Prado.
“The Council of State and the Prado Museum” can be visited until 20 September at the Prado Museum.
