Preview of the exhibition II: Transparent Art. Rock Crystal Carving in Renaissance Milan

14 October 2015 - 10 January 2016

Room D

Transparent Art is a small exhibition on an unusual subject which introduces the public to an unfamiliar concept of art. For although the art of carving and engraving precious stones and gems has produced major works in a variety of colours, here the absence of colour is made up for by the handling of the forms and the carving of the surfaces – figurative or otherwise – which achieve sculptural values comparable to those of renowned masterpieces from the same period.

In order to give this art its deserved recognition and show its most significant aspects, the exhibition brings together a group of twenty pieces, all of them masterpieces of high quality and special significance, with the aim of representing the most important artists and workshops as fully as possible within this small selection.
