"The Fall of the Giants" from the Torre de la Parada (1636-1638)
Live video with Alejandro Vergara Sharp (@alejandrovergarasharp), Head of the Flemish Painting and Northern Schools Collection at the Museo del Prado, on "The Fall of the Giants", or Gigantomachy, described in antiquity by Hesiod and the poet Homer. The talk centres on this work attributed to Jordaens, who collaborated with Rubens on the series of paintings for Philip IV’s Torre de la Parada, as well as on preparatory sketches by Rubens himself for the same series, such as "The Death of Hyacinth", dated between 1636 and 1638.
