The Female Perspective: Artistic Patrons of the Collections
The women from different European royal houses, from Isabella the Catholic to Isabel Clara Eugenia, have played a prominent role in shaping the museum’s collections. To explain who these women were, this documentary delves into the portraits of these queens, regents, and governors displayed in the Prado Museum's permanent collection. These paintings reveal the iconographic solutions and visual strategies employed to construct and promote their public image while simultaneously uncovering the mechanisms of female legitimization in the exercise of power.
