This painting shows a religious scene where Jesus Christ transmits the Grace of God.
The Grace of God is forgiveness and salvation given by God to humanity.
The painting is divided into 3 parts:
-
Part 1: In the upper part, there are 3 figures.
The man on the central throne dressed in red is Jesus Christ.
There is a lamb at the feet of Jesus Christ, symbolising his sacrifice for humanity.
A stream of water originates from the same place, flowing to the central and lower part of the painting.
The woman in blue sitting to the left of Jesus Christ is the Virgin Mary, and the man in green sitting to her right is Saint John the Evangelist.
-
Part 2: In the central part of the painting are various figures of angels playing musical instruments and singing.
-
Part 3: In the lower part of the painting are 2 groups of people.
On the left is a group of kings, nobles, and important figures of the Christian church.
A nobleman is a person who has a title granted by the king or inherited from the family.
On the right of the painting is another group of men.
These men are Jewish and have expressions of confusion.
One of them has his eyes blindfolded.
There is a fountain between the 2 groups.
The sacred hosts emerge from the stream water of the fountain.
The sacred hosts represent the body of Christ in the Christian Holy Mass.
The painting represents the Christian church and its triumph over the Jewish religion, which does not accept Jesus Christ.
During that time, it was common for Christians to criticise the Jewish religion, and they wanted this religion to disappear.
In this painting, the Christian church protects the Jews and invites them to convert to the Christian religion.
