Online courses
This educational content creation project builds on similar past experiences, consolidating a working model under the museum’s supervision to guarantee quality content. These two courses were designed using SCORM, a technical standard compatible with e-learning platforms.
These courses will be periodically published in the Education Newsletter and on the PradoEducación website, where people can sign up for them.
To ensure an effective learning experience, the instructional design uses a combination of interactive content, videos and PDF documents with links to additional information, aimed at anyone interested in increasing their knowledge of art based on the museum’s collections. This content has been divided into independent learning modules called Shareable Content Objects (SCOs) that let students pick up where they left off with the viewed content at any time, without having to retake the tests for each module to finish the course. By way of introduction, we have included a module that reviews the history of the museum and its collection. These courses are self-assessed and allow self-paced learning, including a survey for students to indicate their level of satisfaction.
The quality of the content is ensured by the museum’s expert knowledge of its own collections and its educational approach. To achieve this, quality checks were done continuously throughout the project’s development process, from initial planning and working on video scripts to proofreading the texts and translating them into English. This process required constant cooperation between the Education Department team at the Museo Nacional del Prado and the various external professionals involved.
See and Tell
2023
This course, designed for a wide range of learners, examines how works of art have been vehicles for telling stories and reflecting on the past. From analysing concepts like “art” and “artwork” in the West to the different ways of seeing and understanding art in various eras, you will learn to approach art from a new perspective. Using videos, texts and quizzes, this course studies masterpieces from the museum’s collection to show how artists convey ideas and emotions through composition, colour and narrative details. A unique opportunity to discover art as a universal language connecting cultures and eras.
