A Canal (Holland)
Ca. 1884. Oil on canvas attached to canvas. Not on display
In the foreground of the painting, the plants on the bank and the poplars on the left bank of the canal are reflected on the still, calm water. They stand out against a moving clear sky with clouds. In the background, on the right of the painting, both the body of water and the grove of trees diminish, closing in the distance in a narrow strip that is silhouetted against the cloudy and overcast background of the sky.
