Abandoned Canal in Vriesland (The Netherlands)
Ca. 1877. Oil on canvas mounted on cardboard. Not on display
In the foreground, stagnant water can be seen. On the left, a hut reflected in the marshy waters of the lagoon is visible. A series of rustic wooden sluice gates open to channel the water, which is lost in the distance among the bushes and vegetation on both banks. On the right, as Haes frequently used to do, a close-up of the side of a tree is visible. Lastly, some riverside trees can be perceived in the background.
