Altarpiece of the Virgin
1435 - 1440. Tempera on panel. Room 052AThis altarpiece, either from an unidentified location in Zaragoza or from the Calatayud area, has a principal part and a predella. The principal part comprises three sections on two levels and four intermediary sections with saints and prophets. The central section depicts the Virgin and Child and the Crucifixion. From left to right and top to bottom in the side sections are: the Annunciation, the Adoration of the Magi, the Nativity and the Presentation in the Temple. The predella still has six of its original seven compartments, depicting, from left to right: the Taking of Christ, Christ before Pilate or Herod, the Flagellation, Christ on the Road to Calvary, the Descent from the Cross and the Burial of Christ
