Aureliano de Beruete y Moret

Ca. 1922. Gelatin / Collodion on photographic paper.
Not on display

Aureliano de Beruete y Moret served as Director of the Museo del Prado from 1918 until his death in 1922. Newspapers announced his passing with ´La Época´, on the 10th of June 1922, stating: ‘Tomorrow, Sunday, at nine o´clock, the body will be taken to the Museo del Prado, one of Beruete´s great loves. There it will be exhibited in the rotunda, with a famous Christ behind it, perhaps that of Velázquez, perhaps that of Goya, the two main artistic devotions of Don Aureliano. Thus, his friends and visitors to our excellent art gallery, to which he was so devoted, will be able to see him for the last time.’
