Cherub with the Book of the Seven Seals

1640 - 1650. Red chalk on laid paper.

The cherub is depicted on foot, facing forwards and nude. He holds the book from which the seven apocalyptic seals hang. The outlines of the figure are needle-worked for their transfer by a stencil technique.
