Child Angel
1771. White chalk, Black chalk on green paper. Not on display
This is a preparatory drawing for the figure of an angel for the fresco of Adam and Eve Reprimanded for Their Sin. The work was intended for one of the eight sections of the cupola of the Collegiate Church of La Granja de San Ildefonso, which was destroyed in the fire of 1920. Several sketches made for the same fresco are extant. The drawing depicts the child angel from the back and in profile. The Museo del Prado keeps another preparatory drawing (D000484), which may be for the exact same figure.
