This is a preparatory drawing for the head of the figure of Eve for the fresco of Adam and Eve Reprimanded for Their Sin for one of the eight sections of the cupola of the Collegiate Church of La Granja de San Ildefonso, destroyed in the fire of 1920. Several sketches made for the same fresco are extant. The drawing depicts a female head facing forwards and turned to the left, looking upwards, with long hair. The National Gallery in Edinburgh keeps a preparatory drawing for Adam and Eve Reprimanded for Their Sin. Furthermore, the Museo del Prado keeps several sketches for this fresco located on the cupola interior.
