Throughout the twentieth century the Museo del Prado continued to inspire numerous artists, among them Ramón Gaya who also wrote very interesting texts about it, considering it "the Spanish rock". In his so-called "homages", Gaya depicted his favourite paintings in elegantly simple compositions. His versions of Velázquez, the artist he most admired, are particularly notable.
