Eaux Bonnes (Pyrenees)
Ca. 1882. Oil on paper attached to cardboard. Not on display
The painting depicts the town of Eaux Bonnes, Aquitaine (France) with the Peak Midi d´Ossau appearing in the background. On the left and in the foreground can be seen a large rocky outcrop with the remains of a fortification. On the slope, trees on the ground can be glimpsed. On the right of the painting, a large mountain that almost covers the entire height of the painting appears. Crisscrossed by streams in whose profile, outlined against the sky, almost in the centre, it stands out an isolated peak. The dragged brushstrokes are visible through the preparation of the support.
