Ca. 1878. Oil on canvas. Not on display
With the help of the maid, who watches from behind the folding screen, a girl has dressed up in heels, a long skirt and wears a mask. She appears before her mother and another woman who could be her aunt. Meanwhile, in the background, another young woman looks at herself in the mirror, oblivious to the child´s play. The rococo-style console table and mirrors, the antique painting and the Japanese folding screen reveals this is a wealthy family, the scene depicted belonging to the painter´s social world. According to the documentation of the donation, the girl in the mask is Micaela Francesconi del Moral, the niece of Adelaida del Moral, the painter’s wife.
