Female Bust
XVII century. Black chalk, Red chalk on laid paper. Not on display
It is a drawing in which a female bust with a wide neckline is depicted. The figure is turned three-quarters to the right of the composition and raises her eyes. It is somewhat Italian in character, although probably from Madrid. The figure and expression are reminiscent of those of the female figures in the unpublished canvas on the Martyrdom of Saint Andrew in the Parish Church of Casarrubios del Monte in Toledo. According to Palomino, the latter is a work drawn by Sebastián Muñoz and subsequently completed and signed by Francisco Ignacio Ruiz de la Iglesia. If the female figures on the corresponding canvas are the work of Sebastián Muñoz, this drawing may be attributed to him since it evokes the drawings produced in Maratti’s workshop in Rome, where Muñoz trained.
