Fishermen and a Woman with a Basket full of Fish
1785. Oil on canvas. On display elsewhere
This work was based on a sketch on canvas by Mariano Salvador Maella (1739–1819), also located in the Museo del Prado collections (P873). It is part of a set of cartoons for the tapestries intended to decorate the rooms of the Princes of Asturias in the Palace of El Pardo in Madrid. This is one of the ten designs with seafaring themes which were commissioned for the Ladies´ Piece in the Princess´s Bedroom. The tapestry made from this cardboard is currently located in the Cuartel General del Ejército, in Palacio de Buenavista in Madrid.
