Made from a sketch on canvas by Mariano Salvador Maella (1739-1819) that is preserved in the Real Sociedad Económica Aragonesa de Amigos del País de Zaragoza. It is part of a set of cardboard for the tapestries intended to decorate the rooms of the Princes of Asturias in the Palace of El Pardo in Madrid. For the Ladies´ Room of the Princess a series of ten designs with nautical themes was commissioned, this being one of them. The tapestry made from this cardboard is currently in the Salon de Consejillos or official antedespacho of the Palacio del Pardo (PN-10072416).
