This frame was part of the altarpiece – now lost – made for the church of Santo Domingo de Silos in Daroca. The close links between the frame and the painting itself are evident in their shared use of openwork architecture, drawing on International Gothic models. Gold predominates, both in the carved wood and in the painting, imbuing the whole with an air of majesty.
