French Fair
Ca. 1876. Oil on panel.Room C
This Puerto Rican painter, who trained in Madrid under Federico de Madrazo, came into contact with a number of leading French artists on his first trip to Paris in 1858. French Fair, the first painting by this artist to enter the Prado collection, was probably produced during a second stay in France, between 1874 and 1877. It reflects his first-hand knowledge of Realism, a style which he spread on his return to Puerto Rico.
