Head for the Figure of Hercoldo

This is a preparatory drawing for the head of the main figure of the fresco The Apparition that the devotee Hercoldo had in his dreams. The latter was painted in 1777 and is located in the cloister of Toledo Cathedral. Two preparatory drawings for the fresco are extant: one in Toledo Cathedral and another in the Ena Collection in Zaragoza. This drawing depicts a bearded male head of three-quarter length, turned to the left and foreshortened from below. The Museo del Prado keeps the preparatory drawing of the figure (D000375).
