This is a preparatory drawing for the corresponding figure in the lower central part of the fresco of Apollo Protecting the Sciences and the Arts in the Library of the Royal Palace in Madrid. This is a study of a female head depicted in profile, with her gaze raised and with an elaborate hairstyle.
