In the vicinity of Monasterio de Piedra
1857. Oil on paper attached to canvas. Not on display
This painting depicts the landscape surrounding Monasterio de Piedra, Nuévalos (Zaragoza). The convent, which located near the Piedra river, gives the Natural Park created on the surrounding areas its name.
On the left, on a rocky terrain, a steep path can be seen. The path which runs between two large rocks, disappears among the hills, where a distant peak is visible. Further to the right, the silhouette of a watchtower rises above the mountainous horizon. To the right, an area of woodland can be glimpsed.
