Lagoons near Nijmegen (The Netherlands)
Ca. 1877. Oil on canvas attached to canvas. Not on display
On the semi-swampy waters of a lagoon rests a boat in which a seated man is calmly fishing. By his side, there is a beautiful leaning tree whose trunk is reflected, like the fisherman, in the waters of the lagoon. Shrubs and vegetation close the background of the painting. On the right, we see a kind of rustic dyke or wooden sluice gates typical of a rural irrigation system. There are two known copies of this painting, with slight variations, by Jaime Morera. One is titled Cold October. Nimegen (The Netherlands) and is in the Museo de Jaime Morera in Lérida and the other, Study of a pond with figures, is in a private collection.
