Rodríguez de Miranda was an outstanding landscape painter who worked during the successive reigns of the Kings of Spain Philip V, Ferdinand VI and Charles III. This landscape sits firmly within the 17th-century Flemish tradition. It seems to be one in a pair of two landscapes preserved in the Museo del Prado (P1132), although they may also belong to a series of panoramic views with no known subject.
