Manuel Damián Pérez, who died in Madrid in 1841, was the honorary chamber doctor of Ferdinand VII and second chamber doctor surgeon of Isabella II. He was president of the Royal Academy of Medicine, as well as general inspector of the Army Medical Surgeon Corps. In 1835, he was president of the Royal High Government Medicine and Surgery Board. This is a study from life, done in preparation for the canvas The Illness of Ferdinand VII, painted by Federico de Madrazo y Kuntz in 1833 and currently in the collections of the Patrimonio Nacional at the Royal Palace. On the reverse of this study, there are architectural sketches in pencil.
