Mater Dolorosa
1500 - 1510. Walnut wood.Not on display
In 1909, a group of carvings was acquired for the Prado, including a Mater Dolorosa from a Crucifixion ensemble. Made of wood displaying its natural colour, it was dated to the early sixteenth century and classified as being of Germanic origin. Although it was once painted, its presentday appearance is still highly expressive.
