Military Scene with the Looting of a Village
XVII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil on laid paper. Not on display
In the foreground to the left, a captain is depicted speaking with two prisoners. Halfway between the foreground and the background, several soldiers are loading a cart. In the background, a group of village houses are burning.
The attribution to Orrente in the Lefort catalogue does not seem plausible, but the nature of the drawing is akin to the work of Esteban March. In addition, even the technique with the violet sepia wash closely resembles a technique used for a drawing in the Uffizi, which is attributed to March, in 17th-century handwriting.
