Portrait of a child
1822 - 1825. Oil on canvas.On display elsewhere
This is a half-length, three-quarter profile portrait of an adolescent boy against a neutral background. He is looking at the viewer with a serious expression, while raising the index finger of his left hand as if pointing to something. He is wearing a dark suit and white shirt His hair in a short bob and a few strands falling over his forehead. According to B. Núñez Vernis (1996), he may be the artist’s eighth son, Dionisio, born in Madrid on 9 October 1807, and who would have been about 15 years old when he was portrayed.
