Proximities of Madrid
Ca. 1872. Oil on paper attached to canvas. Not on display
From a rather low viewpoint, the water of a stagnant puddle or stream sits on the edge of a clearing, over which two tree trunks are growing. The overall tone is based on hues of brown and ochre with strong backlighting. It would not be surprising to find that the clearing depicted was in the same area in Madrid where Haes painted his Proximities of Madrid (P005362).
